Joyce Sandifer works both in the field, en plein air, and on paintings in
the Focal Point Studio and Gallery. In the studio she often refers to her
field studies, memory, observations and digital photographs. In each
composition, Joyce works to capture a unique intimacy with the landscape
and a fresh perspective of scenes with uncommon quiet charm. Her goal is to
express with oils, water color or acrylics the light, color, and
compositions she witnesses in the natural world. Born and raised in the
Midwest, Joyce incorporates the traditions of her upbringing and her Native
American heritage in her mixed-media paintings. The landscapes, rich
tonalities, and intricate patterns and textures, all pay tribute to her
cultural and visual heritage. She seeks to express that moment in the scene
that initially captured her attention.
"I am continually fascinated with the fleeting effects of light and shadows
observed while working outdoors and constantly exploring these tonal
relationships and changing color perceptions."
Joyce belongs to Alpha Rho Tau. She travels across the U. S. and
internationally to attend workshops and classes. Her works hang in private,
corporate and public collections and have been included in exhibits at the
Philbrook Art Museum. She is currently teaching watercolor and oils for
the Jenks School District Community Education Program.
